Bound & Lettered Article
The new issue of Bound & Lettered contains an article I wrote: Community Bookmaking Then & Now. It chronicles two projects at the Pollard Memorial Library in Lowell, MA: the 1991 Lowell Multicultural Book Project and this year's All Our Voices: Lowell Women's Week Public Art Project.
The first project involved a small group of seven working over two months to create books about their families histories. In the new project, women and girls from Lowell and the surrounding area made simple books from recycled materials on the theme I am... It was interesting to see how much my approach to bookmaking and sharing art experiences has changed over the years. As I said at the end of the article:
When I did the Lowell Multicultural Book Project, I was tending a small garden. Now my goal is to sow as many seeds as broadly as I can.
