4th day of Christmas

For me the time between Christmas and the new year is one of quiet contemplation, a time to get ready to let the old year out and the new year in. I started out today with the intention of photographing one of the objects on our holiday mantle—a small vase with seed pods from an Apple of Peru plant mixed with silver thread. None of the photos did justice to the delicate beauty of the seed pods which led to a joyful hour or so of playing with the image in photoshop.

The mantle and the vase:

About the Apple of Peru:
I purchased mine from the Herb Farmacy. It began the summer as a potted plant but grew larger than I expected and ended up in a garden bed. Some research indicates that while it is a beautiful garden plant, it is an invasive weed in agricultural lands. I will be disposing of my seed pods very carefully.

  1. Stunning photograph! Frequently there is a fine line between beautiful garden plants and invasive weeds. Some say the same about sweet annie and butterfly bushes..but i love them just the same.
