Forty Years #25: Klee Quote

Drawing and lettering with automatic pen,
small lettering with rapidograph
I started to look at and read about a lot of art. I was particularly interested in Kandinsky and Klee as well as the abstract expressionists. I was interested in gestural work but ultimately I couldn't leave the words.

I took a painting class at Cambridge Center for Adult Education,
surface design at the DeCordova Museum School, and a workshop on abstract expressionism and calligraphy with Thomas Ingmire at the Calligraphy Conference in Hoboken, NJ in 1986. As I worked in the class, I found myself putting words, some of them my own, back in. When Thomas questioned my choice, it became clear to me that the words were necessary for me.
