I happened upon an interesting exhibit of artists' bookworks at Amherst Books in Amherst, MA. Organized by the Toronto collective WayUpWayDown, the books are shelved among the books for sale and relate to the different sections of the store. I am always interested in settings that take the work out of the more rarefied atmosphere of the gallery and museum and connect with people in new ways.
The exhibition is sponsored by the University Art Gallery at UMass in collaboration with Amherst Books which is located at 8 Main St. It runs through November 25 after which it will travel to Montreal. It is part of BookMarks, a region-wide celebration of the book.
