To celebrate the fact that I have written a promotional blurb about Art Lessons that actually sounds like I want to sell the book, I'm having a giveaway here on the blog. A copy of the book will be given to 2 randomly chosen people who post a comment to this post. Please remember to add your email (you can write out the at in the middle to avoid spam) so I can contact you if you are chosen.
Here's the blurb:
Do you struggle with perfection, want to call yourself an artist but are afraid to, hesitate to give yourself the time and freedom to pursue your creative dreams and desires? If any of these apply, Art Lessons, Susan Kapuscinski Gaylord's little book of inspiration and insight, is for you. As one reader wrote, "it reads like a letter from a friend or like a record of treasured conversations rather than a tome of wisdom from a teacher." Part personal story and part reflection, the book contains seven essays which begin with hand-lettered quotes. Each contains hard-won truths that apply to all the arts and life itself.
To Art Lessons, Susan brings her skills in writing, calligraphy, and book design, as well as her years of experience in the field of artists' books and her love of the book as an object in and of itself. The book is designed for an intimate reading experience—the voice is open and warm and the size is small—a perfect fit in the hand for reading or a large pocket or small purse for carrying. Each copy of the book is printed by Paige M. Gutenborg, the book-making robot at the Harvard Book Store in Cambridge, MA.

So glad to have a book I can relate to so well on my shelf. I look forward to giving more copies to other artists! Good morning Susan!
Would love a copy of the book. My big project this year is bookbinding and then I really want to combine watercolor and calligraphy in an artist book for my grandchildren.

Oh, this is wonderful. I love your work!
Deep gratitude for all you've shared over the years...can't tell you how many hotdog books I've made with kids and grownups over the years! And plenty more to come.
You've spurred me on to make spirit books after your delightfully contemplative sculptural books from natural materials. Thanks for your generosity.
And I've tried, really tried, to learn a little about calligraphy from you too. At best, I've improved my approach to hand lettering, so thanks again.
So thanks. An autographed copy of your book will be a happy addition to my bookshelf. Thanks for the chance to win one!
Oh...
did I say thanks?
As I continue to rebuild my life, I've been finding that books about the artistic process have been inspirational both inside and outside the studio, and I'm sure yours would be one I'd refer to often.
Cheers
Linda

wow !! Susan this looks like a very interesting book just to chill for summer reading. Love your books and have done plenty of then in my year as a teaching artist. This year I have done doll like Native American Dolls for social studies classes, animation puppets and christmas dolls and recycle shoeboxes with sock puppets. No books this year that makes me a little bit sad but then I think how much the kids enjoyed the projects so it evened itself out. Maybe I have to chance up for the year. Ok so I need two great book projects for next school year. Please email me on your new books or some great projects for kids. And hope I'm one of the ones that can enjoy reading this book for the summer. Thanks Ms Barbara !! If anybody would like to see my Blog it's at (http://ms-barbara.blogspot.com) Thanks again !!
You've inspired me--and probably thousands of others--over the years. Long may you continue!
THANKS

The look of your work appeals to my sensibilities. I think if we ran into each other on Cape Cod, we'd be instant friends. In the meantime, there's this book, "Art Lessons."
